Samsung’s Lee Ken-hee’s widow soars past $7.4 billion

Hong Rohith, the widow of late Samsung Chairman Lee Ken-hee, is estimated to be worth $7.4 billion, or about NT$207.2 billion, after receiving her share of the estate.

Bloomberg reports that Hong, 75, inherited about 83 million shares of Samsung Electronics, making her Samsung’s largest individual shareholder with a 2.3 percent stake, according to information filed with authorities last week.

Hong is now the richest woman in South Korea, with a net worth of $7.4 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index calculations based on Samsung Electronics’ closing stock price on Monday (3).

Lee’s only son, Lee Jae-yong, also inherited his father’s huge fortune and has increased his shareholding in key businesses of Samsung Group, consolidating his succession position. Lee Jae-yong is now worth $12.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Lee Jae-yong’s two sisters, Lee Boo-jin and Lee Soo-hyun, also increased their wealth to $5 billion and $4.4 billion respectively.

It is understood that Hong Ruo Xi in the distribution of Samsung Electronics stock inheritance, in accordance with the distribution rate set by Korean law, received the most rate, about 33%, and her three children were about 22% each.
