From 18:00 to 22:00 on April 30, hail and widespread strong thunderstorms and high winds occurred in some areas of Nantong City, China. 66 stations with maximum winds exceeding 10 at automatic stations in the city, including Tongzhou Bay Sanyou Group reaching 45.4 m/s (14 strong winds), Haimen Baofang Town reaching 39.0 m/s, Haimen Dongzao Port reaching 38.2 m/s, Tongzhou Huanben Farm reaching 37.9 m/s, Qidong Dongyuan Tantu reached 37.7 m/s; hail of 1~3 cm in diameter occurred in Chengdong Town and Dagong Town of Hai’an, Tongzhou Shigong Town and Rudong Sunny Island.
The extreme disaster weather caused casualties and property damage and other disasters. The command center of Nantong City’s municipal governance modernization promptly entered into a wartime command state, and relevant leaders rushed to the scene overnight to organize rescue and disaster relief. According to statistics, up to now, the affected population of more than 3,000 people, including 11 people died due to the fallen trees smashed down houses, broken utility poles, gusts of wind involved in the river; 102 people were injured due to the disaster, and medical treatment is being organized.
Due to the sudden gale, Su Haimen Fishing 01728 capsized, 11 crew members fell into the water, 2 people have been successfully rescued, 9 people are still in the intense search and rescue. Severely affected areas of housing collapse more damage, has been emergency relocation of 3050 people; many electrical facilities damaged, by the overnight organization repair, part of the power supply has been restored; fallen trees, fences collapsed, damaged vehicles, water heaters fallen and other cases more, is clearing up the obstacles.
