Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by Capitol police during a Jan. 6 incident at the Capitol.
Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by police in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, when a large number of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol to protest the election results. Now, the family of the deceased plans to sue the Capitol police and the police officer who fired the gun, seeking at least $10 million.
CBS8 and Zenger News reported that Babbitt, a Trump supporter, also broke into the Capitol on Jan. 6, but as she was about to climb through a window, a Capitol police officer shot her and she fell backward, bleeding to the ground. It is now known that she had served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years.
After a related review, the U.S. Department of Justice ruled on April 14 not to prosecute the congressman who fired the gun, arguing that there was insufficient evidence and self-defense. Now the family of the deceased has hired attorney Terry Robert to seek justice for Babbitt.
Robert claimed that he knew the name of the police officer who shot him and also had the record of the other party in the past in the police department, and would notify the Capitol Police within 10 days to prepare to file a lawsuit in the federal district court in Washington, D.C. The amount of money sought is up to ten million dollars.
