Several areas in China’s Jiangsu province were affected by strong convective weather on April 30, with hail, strong winds and thunderstorms. Among them, Nantong City was most severely affected, with some areas hit by strong winds of 14. According to the video uploaded by netizens, the roads in downtown Nantong were in a mess, many billboards were knocked down by strong winds and hit pedestrians, many trees on the street were uprooted, and a civil airliner at an airport was “spinning in place” by the wind. According to official media reports, as of the morning of May 1, 11 people had died, 102 were injured and more than 3,000 were affected in Nantong, Huai’an, Yancheng, Taizhou and Suqian. In addition, a passenger plane parked on the tarmac at Nantong Xingdong International Airport was blown by strong winds and spun almost 180 degrees. The airport staff bluntly said: “(wind) a little more directly overturned!”
According to the “Nantong release” news, due to the sudden wind, Su Haimen fishing 01728 capsized, 11 crew members fell into the water, two people have been rescued, 9 people are still missing. The affected area has more houses collapsed and damaged, many electric facilities are damaged, and some of them have resumed power supply; there are more trees fallen, fences collapsed, vehicles damaged and water heaters fallen, etc., which are being cleaned up and cleared.
