Central News Agency quoted Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that at about 10:27 a.m. Japan time today, the estimated size of 6.6 earthquake occurred off Miyagi Prefecture, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Osaki City and other places were observed to tremor 5 strong shaking; Miyagi Prefecture, Kesennuma City and other places appeared to tremor 5 weak shaking.

A man working as a security guard at Osaki City Hall in Miyagi Prefecture said he felt strong shaking from left to right and up and down for about 30 seconds; although the items on the table were not shaken off the ground, they were constantly shaking on the table.
The Chief of the Earthquake and Tsunami Surveillance Division of the Meteorological Agency, Susumu Sokuta, said that in the next week or so, there is still a possibility of earthquakes with a maximum magnitude of about 5, and he hopes that people will pay more attention to them; especially in the next 2 to 3 days, there is a high probability of a strong shaking felt earthquake.
Sokuta said that many people may not be staying in places they are familiar with during the long Golden Week holiday, so they should check evacuation routes or evacuation sites first.
The Tohoku Shinkansen was suspended in both directions from Omiya Station to Shin-Aomori Station due to the morning earthquake off Miyagi Prefecture, but JR East, the company in charge of operations, said the entire line resumed service at 3:30 p.m.
The Yamagata Shinkansen is also currently closed in both directions from Omiya Station to Shinjo Station and is expected to resume service at 4 p.m.
The entire Tohoku Shinkansen and Yamagata Shinkansen lines were once suspended due to the earthquake, but after confirming that the Tokyo Station to Omiya Station section was safe, they resumed service about an hour after the earthquake.
