African-American man robbed a Chinese-American children’s clothing store at gunpoint in Manhattan

A Chinese-owned children’s clothing store in Manhattan’s Chelsea was robbed on the 23rd, losing hundreds of dollars in cash; a 61-year-old Chinese-born employee was beaten in the head by the robber, and other employees were also shocked, and the store remained locked during the day on the 30th, confirming visitors before opening the door to let people into the store; the city police also released surveillance of the crime on the same day, urging people to pay attention.

The police said that at about 3:15 p.m. on the 23rd, an African-American male robber broke into a Chinese children’s clothing store called “Lucky Wang” at 82 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, threatening at gunpoint a 61-year-old Chinese employee who was working in the store to open the cash register, the robber then quickly grabbed $100 from the money box The robber then quickly grabbed $100 in cash from the cash box and fled south along Seventh Avenue.

The store opened for business as usual on the 30th, there are two Chinese employees on duty in the store, but the store door is still locked during the day, until after hearing the sound of customers pulling the door, the store staff then through the glass door to confirm, before daring to let people into the store.

Two Chinese employees said that a similar case occurred in February 2019, when a 42-year-old female employee of Chinese descent was beaten, causing her nose to be injured and bleeding on the spot.

But for this case employees are reluctant to reveal more details for the robbery, only saying that whether or not it is because of the recent surge in anti-Asian hate cases, the case was a terrible experience for the store, or the employees, and I hope it never happens again.

According to surveillance video released by the city police that day of the crime, the African-American suspect was last seen wearing a tricolor baseball cap, white mask, gray hoodie, and dark pants sneakers.
