White House announces ban on Indian travelers from next Tuesday

The U.S. government announced on Friday (April 30) that travelers from India will be banned from entering the country next Tuesday (May 4) due to the seriousness of the New Coronavirus outbreak in India.

In a statement, White House spokesman Pusaki said that due to the high number of cases of Newcastle pneumonia in India and the spread of multiple variants of the virus in India, the government accepted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation to restrict the entry of travelers from India as soon as possible and decided to implement the measures from 01:00 a.m. next Tuesday.

The measure does not apply to U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents and other exempted persons. However, all international travelers, even if they meet the requirements, will still need to obtain a certificate that they are not infected with the new coronavirus before leaving India, and if they have not received the new coronavirus vaccine before arriving in the United States, they will need to undergo quarantine and testing to confirm that they are not infected before entering the country. Humanitarian work is not subject to this restriction. The White House will notify congressional officials of the decision at a later date.
