The U.S. Department of Defense announced on April 27 that Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $138 million contract modification to provide Taiwan’s Air Force with an improved version of the AGM-88 missile.

The Defense Blog, an independent military media outlet, reported that the U.S. Department of Defense announced the award of a $138 million (about NT$3.8 billion) contract modification to Lockheed Martin to develop and deploy the Auto Ground Collision Avoidance System (AGCAS) for Taiwan’s F-16 fleet. “The contract will develop and deploy the Auto Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto GCAS) and AGM-88 anti-radiation missiles for Taiwan’s F-16 fleet, improve the maturity of the radar software, upgrade the data collection system, and provide an advanced enemy identification system.

Under the terms of the contract, operations will be conducted in Fort Worth, Texas, and Taiwan, respectively, and are expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2022.

The revised contract is 100 percent Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and is the result of a single-source procurement.

The AGM-88 High-speed Anti-radiation Missile (HARM) is a medium-range air-to-ground missile designed to combat enemy air defenses.
