Sneakers “Nike” auction set another record three times higher than Jordan’s pair

A pair of Nike Air Yeezy1s worn by American rapper Kanye Omari West set a record price for sneakers at auction yesterday, April 26, three times higher than the previous record for Jordan’s pair.

Sotheby’s, which ran the auction, announced Monday that a pair of Nike sneakers (Air Yeezy1) worn by its inspiration, rapper Kanye West, sold to a specialist investment platform for $1.8 million. This record is three times higher than the previous record for a sneaker auction, the Nike sneaker worn by Jordan.

The sneakers, sold yesterday by New York collector Ryan Chang, were first worn by Kanye West when he performed his songs “Hey Mama” and “Stronger” at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
