Travel bubble reopens on May 26
The government tightened some of the health conditions
The Hong Kong government held a press conference on May 26 to announce that the “travel bubble” between Hong Kong and Singapore will be restarted on May 26. The authorities said that travelers from Hong Kong to Singapore must have no record of travel outside the two places within 14 days before departure, and download and register to use the local “Trace Together” mobile application, and Hong Kong residents must complete two doses of vaccination at least 14 days before traveling to Singapore. The Hong Kong residents are also required to complete two doses of vaccination before travelling to Singapore.
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. Edward Yau, said the first exclusive flight under the “Air Travel Bubble” is expected to depart on May 26. The “air travel bubble” will be divided into two phases, the first phase from May 26 to June 9, there will be a daily flight from Hong Kong to Singapore and Singapore to Hong Kong, each flight can carry 200 passengers; from June 10 onwards, there will be two flights per day, the number of passengers remains unchanged.
The “travel bubble” originally required passengers to have no record of travel outside Singapore or Hong Kong within 14 days before departure, but due to the spread of the new variant of the virus in different regions, and the incubation period of patients more than 14 days, the new requirements of the 14 days do not include travelers due to travel in the two places for mandatory quarantine quarantine period.
Passengers must be 72 hours before departure and after arrival to receive virus testing and obtain a negative result, and travel on exclusive flights, the journey will not be subject to travel restrictions and do not need to be mandatory quarantine. Yau also said that Hong Kong residents traveling from Hong Kong to Singapore must complete two doses of vaccination for at least 14 days before they can take the exclusive flight. But Singaporean visitors to Hong Kong do not need to be vaccinated.
Travelers from Hong Kong to Singapore must download and register for the local “Trace Together” mobile application. Singaporean visitors to Hong Kong must download and use “MyTravel” and keep the relevant records for 31 days after leaving Hong Kong.
Yau also said that both governments have re-examined the “bubble” and restart mechanism, originally if the average number of local cases of unknown origin in Singapore or Hong Kong exceeds five in seven days, the travel bubble arrangement will be suspended for two weeks, and then the last day of the two-week suspension of the above figures in both places back to no more than five cases, the travel bubble can be restarted. The new requirement is to observe for 3 days after the suspension of 14 days, the number of local cases of unknown origin in both places must be maintained at 3 or less on these 3 days, and the 7-day average of local cases of unknown origin does not exceed 5 on the third day before the “travel bubble” arrangement can be restarted.
The authorities said that before the official launch of the “air travel bubble” will continue to closely monitor the development of the epidemic in the two places.
