The U.S. Department of Defense has pledged to use every resource within its authority to support joint operations across the government to rapidly help India respond to the severe New Crown epidemic.
The U.S. military has an adequate, effective and rapid transportation capability and has played an important role in helping the country’s government departments in their efforts to combat the new crown epidemic.
On top of that, Defense Secretary Austin said Sunday (April 25, 2021) that the Pentagon is considering calling on internal stocks as well as purchasing new medical equipment to send relief supplies to India in the coming days and weeks.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Joe Biden pledged to help with disaster relief in India.
A White House National Security Council spokeswoman said the U.S. has “identified specific sources of raw materials that are urgently needed for the production of the Corvisid vaccine in India, and these will be made available to India immediately.” She added that the United States is sending therapeutic drugs, rapid diagnostic test kits, respirators and personal protective equipment to India.
Other countries, including Britain, France and Germany, have also said they will help.
Indian authorities said Monday that the daily increase in new coronary cases in the past 24 hours was another record, at 353,000, with 2,812 deaths. In the country of 1.3 billion people, the cumulative number of people with new coronary infections reached 17.31 million and the cumulative number of new coronary deaths reached 195,000. Health experts, however, believe that the actual number of deaths in India may far exceed this figure.
