There was a rail jumping incident on Shanghai Metro Line 2 at noon today where a man jumped over the safety gate into the track as the train was entering the station and died of his injuries. Police said the cause of the accident to be investigated.
The Xinmin Evening News reported that a train on Shanghai Metro Line 2 heading for Pudong International Airport entered Longyang Road Station at 11:05 a.m. today when it suddenly encountered a man jumping over the platform safety gate into the track, causing the train to stop in an emergency.
The report quoted emergency personnel as saying that the man had died.
According to a video on Weibo, a man jumped into the track during the train’s approach and was later stuck between the train and the platform safety gate.
As a result of the accident, some sections of Metro Line 2 have had their frequency intervals extended, missing the train by about 15 minutes or more.
Police said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
On February 6, 2012, a man was killed on the spot in a rail jumping incident at Lujiazui Station on Shanghai Metro Line 2. A similar incident occurred earlier in the year, when a woman jumped the tracks and died on the spot.
A male passenger was also killed at 12:18 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2017, when he jumped onto the track from the platform of Loushanguan Road Station on Shanghai Metro Line 2 in the upward direction and was hit.
