A bridge under construction collapsed in Yiyang County, Luoyang City, Henan Province, China, on Sunday (25). On April 25, local time, a video clip was circulated in the online community, showing a bridge still under construction collapsed, part of the bridge collapsed and soaked in water. Netizens said it was a bridge under construction near the Yiyang Lingshan Temple in Luoyang City, Henan Province. Subsequently, a staff member of the Lingshan Temple scenic spot confirmed that a local bridge under construction did collapse, but that bridge was located outside the scenic spot and had nothing to do with it.
Later that day, a land media report said that the propaganda department of Yiyang County has confirmed that the bridge collapsed due to the rising water level of the Luo River in Lingshan, and the water and wind were too strong, no casualties were reported for the time being.
According to the report of the land media, the water level near the pedestrian landscape bridge of Lingshan Luo River in Yiyang County suddenly rose in the night of the 24th, and at around 1:25 a.m. on the 25th, “due to excessive water”, the two tie beams of the fourth span of the landscape bridge collapsed, the steel structure was deformed and the full frame was washed away.
Officials explained that the project is a steel bridge, because the upper steel structure has not been completed, can not play a tensioning role. The bridge’s fourth span tie beam was supported only by the full-span frame, and the excessive water volume caused the full-span frame to wash away and the tie beam to collapse.
A Chinese netizen forwarded the video to overseas social media Twitter and expressed surprise at the official statement.

It is widely believed that this is due to the fact that corruption is rampant in mainland China, so many projects have become poor quality “tofu-dreg projects” because of jerry-built materials.
