U.S., U.K., France, EU announce aid to India in severe epidemic

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says he wants to send emergency relief to India.

The U.S. announced Sunday that it will “immediately” send vaccination supplies and materials to produce more vaccines to India, which has been affected by the virus.

Emily Horne, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, said they will send personal protective equipment and rapid test kits.

Anthony Fauci, the president’s chief medical adviser, said the U.S. is also considering sending some stockpiles of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Earlier this day, Britain said it would send more than 600 pieces of equipment to India, including remaining stocks of ventilators and oxygen concentrators.

The French presidency also announced that it would provide oxygen (equipment) assistance to India.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she would “react quickly” to assist Covide-affected India.

India has recorded 349,691 new cases and 2,767 deaths in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number recorded in the country since the outbreak began.
