China’s Mobile Phone Brands Compete for Huawei Cake

The U.S. government continues its global push to exclude products from Chinese telecom giant Huawei, while other Chinese cell phone brands are competing for the space left by the company.

During a visit to Latin America last week, State Department Undersecretary for Economic Development and Energy and Environment Keith Krach urged countries to participate in the “clean network” program to exclude Huawei devices. Brazil, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic have already said they would join, while Chile and Panama have not.

During his visit to Latin America, Krach said the Clean Network program is costing Huawei the global market.

According to Deutsche Welle, the Clean Network now includes 27 of NATO’s 30 countries, which together account for ⅔ of the world’s economy.

On the other side of the coin, Huawei’s remaining market share after being hit by the U.S. is being fought over by other Chinese brands’ phones.

According to Reuters, industry insiders have revealed that Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are all raising their estimates for next year’s market. Among them, Xiaomi is the most optimistic, with orders of 100 million units in the fourth quarter of this year and first quarter of next year, an increase of 50% over the estimated number. At the same time, Huawei’s order quantity is down by more than 50%.
