Southern China has been in drought since last winter, affecting 6.72 million mu of arable land and causing drinking water difficulties for 990,000 people, according to land media reports.
According to a comprehensive land media report today (April 24), last winter and this spring, some areas in southern China have been in drought for a long time. As of April 23, 6.72 million mu of arable land in China were affected by drought, including 2.84 million mu of crops and 3.88 million mu of arable land to be sown, and 990,000 rural residents and 320,000 head of livestock had drinking water difficulties due to drought, mainly in Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Shanxi and other provinces (autonomous regions).
Some towns in eastern Guangdong have implemented limited water supply with limited time and pressure.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, since October last year, the precipitation in Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou was the lowest in history since 1961, with 60% less precipitation in Fujian and 53.4% less in Guangdong than in the same period.
At the same time, the temperature in most parts of the South is 1 to 2 degrees Celsius higher than the same period.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Water Resources held a meeting to study the situation, while pointing out that China has entered the flood season from the south to the north, fearing a rapid turn of drought and flooding.
