U.S. college woman attacked in front of her home, brutally thrown acid

A 21-year-old college student of Pakistani descent was recently attacked by a man who threw acid on her driveway in front of her home in what her family called a “premeditated attack” on Long Island, New York.

According to Fox News 22, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. local time on March 17. Nafia Ikram was returning home from Hofstra University when she was attacked. According to local police, the suspect, a tall, thin man, was holding a white cup with a dark substance and threw it at Nafia’s face.

Nafia was then taken to a hospital for treatment. According to her father, Sheikh Ikram, the acid burned Nafia’s throat, making it difficult for her to swallow, and she suffered near blindness and burns to both arms. Nafia was also so traumatized that she was afraid to sleep alone or take a bath for fear of splashing water on her face. The cost of treatment is reportedly high and the family has had to ask for donations.

According to reports, Nafia’s family believes that the attack was not random but premeditated, and the family does not know why someone would want to hurt Nafia for the time being. In an interview on the 21st, Sheikh said, “She didn’t have any enemies since she was a child, she was a very friendly person.” He said, “I hope the suspect will be arrested soon, we don’t want others to be attacked as well.”
