The Breitbart News reported on April 23 that Vice President Kamala Harris argued at a meeting on Thursday that climate change is the root cause of migration from Central American countries. He said people in Central America’s Northern Triangle are facing food scarcity and extreme poverty due to climate change.
The Biden administration believes that the damage caused by hurricanes Ita and Ita in 2020 wreaked havoc on the Central American Northern Triangle, pushing climate migrants to the U.S. In February, Biden signed an executive order requiring the assistant to the president for national security affairs to draft a report on the impact of climate change on mass migration.
El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, which border each other in Central America, are known as the “Northern Triangle of Central America,” one of the most dangerous regions in the world due to violence by highly armed transnational gang groups. In recent years, as the violence has worsened, large numbers of residents have fled to other countries, creating a huge influx of refugees.
