Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) recently introduced legislation to ban U.S. funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), which is openly involved in the inhumane “family planning” tactics practiced by the Chinese Communist Party. The Trump administration has withdrawn from the foundation, but now the Biden administration is planning to rejoin.
U.S. media outlet Daily Wire reported on April 22 that Roe’s bill, called the No Taxpayer Funding for the UN Population Fund Act, aims to prohibit The purpose of the No Taxpayer Funding for the UN Population Fund Act is to prohibit the U.S. from using taxpayer money to fund forced abortions and sterilizations by communist regimes.
Roe has opposed U.S. funding for the UN Population Fund for many years, having raised clear objections when he was a senator in 1985, but recently Biden is gradually restoring funds that the Trump administration withdrew from the UN, which has raised concerns for Roe and therefore wants legislation to stop it.
Because both conservative American ideology and evangelical Christian voters demanded a crackdown on abortion, Trump stopped funding the UNFPA when he took office then, while the U.S. funded the UNFPA to the tune of more than $63 million when former President Barack Obama was in office in 2016, making it the No. 3 donor after the United Kingdom and Sweden.
“U.S. taxpayer dollars should never directly or indirectly support inhumane acts such as abortion, involuntary sterilization,” Roe said in the press release, “and certainly not be used to support the oppressive, U.S.-hating Communist Party of China.”
“Because the UNFPA has an open partnership with the Chinese Communist regime and supports its brutal persecution of human rights, the Trump administration has quite rightly stopped its funding and this bill will continue to enforce that (Trump) policy.”
According to a report by the Jamestown Foundation, the Chinese Communist Party supports the sterilization of people in Xinjiang with enough money to perform 200,000 sterilizations, according to U.S. media outlet The Federalist. The report argues that UNFPA should not cooperate with the mass extermination Chinese Communist Party in its so-called “family planning program,” which centers on forced abortions and sterilizations.
Roe’s proposal was supported by more than 30 members of Congress, as well as by Heritage Action, Family Research Council Action, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, and Students Against Abortion.
