16-Year-Old Black Girl Shot Dead, Neighborhood Surveillance Video Proves U.S. Police Had No Choice But to Shoot

Home security video captured a new angle of Bryant’s shooting death, and a neighbor said he believes if officers hadn’t shot and killed the 16-year-old black girl in Columbus, Ohio, more people could have been killed, the Daily Mail reported on the 22nd.

The 26-second video gives a glimpse of the moments before Tuesday’s fatal incident, later identified as the Bryant girl, is seen walking down a driveway toward others, at the same time a police car pulls up outside the house. Bryant then appeared to suddenly rush toward another person in the driveway. What happened next can be seen in police body camera footage released Wednesday.

The new footage was taken by a garage security camera from Donavon Brinson across the street. In the video, Bryant is seen holding a knife and charging at two other young women. She appears to be lunging at the second woman with the knife when Reardon opens fire.

Brinson told The Columbus Dispatch that after watching the surveillance video from his home, he believes the police had no choice but to shoot Bryant at the time. It was violent, and it all happened so fast,” he said.
