On April 19, human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng’s wife, Geng He, and many of her supporters came to San Francisco to protest outside the Chinese Consulate, demanding that the Chinese Communist Party account for Gao Zhisheng’s whereabouts. Previously, Geng expressed her fears that Zhisheng Gao had died as a result of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party. At this event, Geng He made a public speech demanding that the CCP hand over Zhisheng Gao’s ashes.
At 12:00 noon on April 19, Geng He, wife of renowned human rights lawyer Zhisheng Gao, and several people in solidarity with her came outside the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco to demand that the Chinese Communist Party account for Zhisheng Gao’s whereabouts.
During the event, Geng He made a public speech saying, “I underestimated the evil of the Chinese Communist Party, and I have no more dreams now. I only hope that the Chinese Communist Party will return Zhisheng Gao’s ashes and reunite our family!”
Fang Zheng, president of the China Democracy Education Foundation, who was present to show his solidarity, said, “We are here today at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, which is a representative place of the Chinese government in the United States. We are here to shout to the Chinese government and to the Chinese Communist authorities. We demand to know the whereabouts of Zhisheng Gao.”
As previously reported, on April 14, Geng tweeted that she had “reason to suspect that Zhisheng Gao has died in illegal detention by the Chinese Communist Party,” and on April 19, the 1,144th day since Gao’s disappearance, Geng came to the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco with a number of solidarity supporters to raise the message “On April 19, 1,144 days after Gao Zhisheng’s disappearance, Geng and a number of supporters came to the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco to hold signs and photos of Gao Zhisheng, calling out “Return my husband Gao Zhisheng’s ashes”, “Find Gao Zhisheng” and “Where is Gao Zhisheng? In the event of a protest, Geng and his team held a protest, chanting the slogan “Free Gao Zhisheng”.
Geng said at the event that Gao Zhisheng has been held and persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party for more than 10 years and “has not been free for a single day. In particular, over the last three years, Zhisheng Gao, who was originally under house arrest, has disappeared from China, “seemingly evaporating into thin air. It was not until earlier this month that the Yulin Public Security Bureau in Shaanxi Province admitted for the first time that Zhisheng Gao was in their hands, but also did not allow outsiders to meet or talk to him on the phone.
Geng said that among the many abductions of Zhisheng Gao by the Chinese Communist Party in the past, none has been as long as this one. In the process, the public security authorities in Beijing, Yulin and Jia County have been shirking their responsibilities and have refused to give an account of Gao Zhisheng’s whereabouts for a long time. In addition to the recent death of Jilin rights activist Guo Hongwei, who was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party, and the suicide of Gao Zhisheng’s sister in Shandong, “I am getting more and more afraid and worried about Gao Zhisheng’s life. I feel that Zhisheng Gao has been persecuted to death by the Chinese Communist Party.”
Geng also said that if her demand for the return of Zhisheng Gao’s ashes is not met, she will come to the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco to pay her respects on the first and fifteenth days of the month and on the Qingming Festival.
Geng He also told reporters, “The only request for this event is to ask the Chinese Communist Party to return Zhisheng Gao’s ashes to me. The site is spontaneous to support Gao Zhisheng netizens, without any organizers.” She added that her family has been “torn apart”, “but as long as I live, I will insist on finding my husband, Zhisheng Gao.”
Christina Wang, an evangelist and friend of Geng He, announced at the event the contact information for Qiu Zuman, director of the Yulin Public Security Bureau in Shaanxi Province, and the Yulin Public Security Bureau, and urged people to call them.
In her speech, she said, “We demand that the Chinese Communist authorities account for the whereabouts of lawyer Gao and that we see him alive and dead.”
Li Aijie, wife of Zhang Haitao, a political prisoner in Xinjiang who was heavily sentenced to 19 years for his solidarity with Uighurs, also came to the event. She said, “We have the right to know the life and death conditions of Mr. Gao Zhisheng and Zhang Haitao. We want to see people alive, and we want to see the dead.”
During the protest, people also raised signs with the words “Is Zhang Haitao still alive?” and wore shirts with the words “Free Zhang Haitao” to show their solidarity with Zhang Haitao.
