Canada-U.S. and international non-essential travel restrictions extended for at least 1 more month

Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced that Canada’s international border restrictions with the United States will be extended for at least one more month.

Blair issued a statement saying that Canadian and U.S. officials have agreed to maintain the border between the two countries and continue to not accept non-essential travelers across the border; as for non-U.S. international travelers, the restrictions on entry into Canada will also be extended until May 21.

Since March 2020, the U.S.-Canada border has maintained restrictions on non-essential travel across the border, and will be reviewed monthly.

Blair said that as the number of cases increases and concerns grow, it is important to ensure the safety of Canadians, so necessary action continues to be taken.

The requirement that passengers arriving by air be tested immediately upon entry into Canada will also be extended until May 21, as well as the requirement to self-quarantine in designated hotels.
