People infected with the Chinese communist virus continue to arrive in Vancouver, Canada, on flights from India, where the outbreak caused by the variant virus has spiraled out of control, according to the Canadian Press Agency.
According to the latest data from the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control, 10 flights from Delhi to Vancouver between April 6 and April 16 had patients infected with the new crown, and even some flights had multiple patients on board.
Meanwhile, flights arriving in Vancouver from the Netherlands and the United States also had patients with New Crown on board.
However, the Canadian government requires that in order to board a flight to Canada, all passengers 5 years of age and older must have a negative COVID-19 test report within three days. Passengers entering Canada by air must be tested at the airport and quarantined at a government-approved hotel for three days.
What is unclear is why those who tested negative three days before departure were diagnosed with the new coronavirus upon arrival in Vancouver, but health officials say they could also have contracted it after testing.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday he is considering whether to ban flights from specific countries, such as India, from entering the country.
He said, “We are continuing to investigate, and I’ve asked our officials to look closely at, for example, what steps the U.K. has taken recently in terms of suspending flights from India.”
Last December, Canada suspended flights from the U.K. for more than two weeks over concerns about a new variant strain of coronavirus that first emerged in the U.K.
And now the U.K. has put India on a “blacklist” of flights banned from entering the country.
The U.K. only allows British citizens from 40 countries to enter the country, and they must stay in quarantine hotels for 10 days.
This week, more than 250,000 new cases of the disease are being reported in India every day. Local hospitals are overcrowded and the death toll is climbing. Doctors are investigating whether another new variant, known as B.1.617, is the cause of the outbreak. This variant is a secondary variant on top of the known more contagious variant.
