Xi Jinping’s daughter Xi Mingze’s personal information was leaked, leading to the sentencing of 24 young people associated with the “Vulgar Wiki” website. Today (April 21), lawyers representing the second trial of the case were suddenly notified that the second trial will be held on the 23rd. The lawyer said that this is totally against the requirement of 3 days’ notice of the criminal prosecution law, and denounced the Maoming Central Court for ignoring the law and persecuting the children in a heartless manner without regard to shame.
Lawyer Wang Yu disclosed in a tweet today that she and another lawyer represented the minor group of clients in the case. This afternoon another lawyer received a phone call from the court informing them that the trial will be held on the 23rd.
Lawyer Wang Yu pointed out that this is completely in violation of the Criminal Procedure Law’s requirement to notify lawyers 3 days in advance. And the second trial court Maoming Central Court did not notify Wang Yu lawyer at all.
She angrily denounced, “It seems that in this case, the Maoming Central Court has ignored the law without regard to shame, completely naked! They are so heartless to persecute the children, not afraid of the wrath of God!”
The lawyer of Niu Tengyu, who was named as the “main offender” in the case, Bao Longjun, tweeted yesterday that another lawyer representing Niu Tengyu, Qin Chenshou, received a phone call from the Maoming Central Court informing him that the verdict of Niu Tengyu’s case would be delivered at 10:30 a.m. on the 23rd.
The lawyer called back and the call was answered by Chen Ye, the clerk of the second trial judge Zhang Shuming. Chen Ye said: “Now notify the 23rd at 10:30 a.m. sentencing, serving the verdict.”
Bao lawyer questioned, “We asked Zhang Shuming to recuse himself, but the verdict came out.”
It is reported that Zhang Shuming had participated in the first trial verdict and suggested the first trial judge to impose heavy sentences on Niu Tengyu and others.
Lawyer Bao disclosed on April 16 that on April 15, he, together with three lawyers, Xie Yang, Ren Quanniu and Qin Chenshou, submitted an application to the Maoming Intermediate Court, hoping that the president and the trial committee would make a decision to recuse Zhang Shuming.
The case was sparked by the disclosure of Xi Jinping’s daughter Xi Mingze and brother-in-law Deng Jiagui’s personal information by the overseas “Red Bank Foundation” and the “Chinawiki” website. The public security officials in Maoming, Guangdong Province, were accused of being powerless to deal with the overseas exposers, so they arrested and sentenced the people involved with the mainland website “Vulgar Wiki”, which shared the links to the two websites, as “scapegoats”.
As the case fermented, the local police tortured to extract confessions, pressured lawyers, threatened parents who cried out for justice, fabricated false confessions, and submitted shady reports to turn Niu Tengyu into the main culprit, and other shady practices were exposed.
The case has now attracted the attention of the international community. At the end of last month, nine human rights officials from the embassies of the United States, Germany, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries met with Niu Tengyu’s mother and expressed great concern about the case.
