I saw a few bloggers I follow, discussing the relationship between math and genius, and kind of couldn’t resist, so I’ll say a few more words.
I observed a larger sample, so I have a little to say. Mathematics is indeed more than talent. But many parents, do not understand enough about talent, and often what parents mistakenly think is talent, is actually nothing. I can try to quantify “talent” here. But because I’ve seen so many kids, the more confident I am, the more cautious I am about making judgments. If you have a different opinion, then you are basically right!
But I will write several conditions as quantitative as possible, as far as possible comparable a little, if you are honest, the right number will also understand.
I think to meet any of the following conditions, even if there is a talent, of course, even if there is a talent, how far can ultimately go or no one knows. But the advantage of this standard is that if your child does not meet the following conditions, most of them are not talented.
(Of course no talent, it does not mean that the child must not be a mathematics professor in the future or something. Life, it is difficult to say. You see, I’ve seen a lot of children of all kinds, so I’m very careful what I say.)
For one thing, you don’t know what’s going on, but all the teachers of this child, the more bullish the teachers are, the more they think this child is able to start a school. The more prestigious the teacher, the more proud to have taken this student. Of course this does not refer to any commercial touting of training institutions, such teachers are at least themselves famous and established. This kind of student, is a real genius, one of the meaning of the existence of this genius, is to refresh the ordinary people’s perception and definition of genius. This type, of course, among the Chinese is not Chen Shansheng.
Second, the parents are well educated, even if the child’s math education is not that much attention. But the child seems to have been doing okay in mathematics, such as three or four years old, with a little nudge can learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. For example, in the first and second grades, he or she can read a book by himself or herself or hear the teacher talk about it in passing and have no problem understanding a chicken and rabbit level of math. This is not the same thing as the chicken and rabbit cage that you have to work hard to understand from a young age to brush up on your Olympiad class. Another example is that even as a child did not engage in mathematics at all, to a fourth or fifth grade, the quadratic equation of the binary heard to understand. Third, the parents are crazy chicken children, whether it is right or wrong chicken children, and whether it is active or passive chicken children, in any case, the child will probably be able to understand calculus at the latest at the age of ten. (Just “can” understand, not must understand. The subtle differences are entirely up to the conscience of the parents, many of whom are delusional.) The most extreme example of this type is Tao Zhexuan. And most people, if a child has a 10% level of Tao Zhexuan, it should be the ancestral graves of smoke. Fourth, the parents may not be educated at all, or the child’s math learning is simply not too concerned. The child itself does not seem to spend much energy learning mathematics, but the child from the first grade to high school graduation, has always been close to full marks in mathematics. Occasionally, when he or she does not get a perfect score or is not number one, the students and teachers around him or her will be particularly surprised. This type, you can refer to the major domestic famous school mathematics college genius students. Frankly speaking this type, is the closest to ordinary people. Because to a large extent, is from the genetic mutation. That is, I often like to say “wild school bully”. There are many examples of this, but because there are so many, I won’t name them here. Many of the geniuses in this category are misunderstood as “small town problem makers”.
Five is the most promising for ordinary people, but also the most desperate for ordinary people. This kind of talent the ancients have long said clearly: “hard work can make up for clumsiness”, but also add “a life two luck three feng shui”, the last thing we can see the so-called successful people, in fact, are mathematical survivor deviation. This genius relies mainly on diligence, persistence, and perseverance, and these qualities, which many people do not realize, are actually extremely rare gifts as well. This type, of course, is not Zhang Yitang. Chen Jingrun also counts as one.
Finally, than the fourth and fifth category can also be close to ordinary people’s lives, but also more likely to become a reality in the real world, is more or less, dipped in the above types of two or more, this somehow, considered a comprehensive talent it. But how do you know your child will be such a person? There’s no way around it. It’s fate. If your child is really good at math, he or she will tell you that the probability of several independent events happening is probably much lower than the probability of a single event like your child being a genius. The most crucial thing is that this type of so-called genius, is not possible to come out by chicken children.
So with reference to those above, how much talent does your child have? I think that we all still need to have respect for mathematics. Don’t tell me, what the third grade finished elementary school math, SAT math 800 full score, high school entrance exams more than 140, is a mathematical talent.
Talented this thing is the cruelest, you have or not, no matter how great the illusion, those who have talent, a look at you know you do not. Fortunately, the world is fair. Ultimately, we ordinary people, not necessarily rely on talent to eat, and even more so, not to rely on mathematics to eat. That’s why we ordinary people have a way to live!

Because you think the child bullying math good talent, you will let them go with others than talent. In fact, you do not know, your child’s advantage, really not in mathematical talent. I believe that most parents calm down, and will not want to force their own children into such a genius.
But most parents are not calm!
