A supermarket in Long Island, New York, U.S. state, Tuesday (20) near noon when a shooting, resulting in one dead and two wounded, the gunman fled afterwards, the supermarket a suspected employee involved in the case was sought by police and arrested three hours after the crime.
The incident occurred in Nassau County (Nassau County) West Hempstead (West Hempstead) Stop& Shop supermarket, police responded to the scene at about 11:30 a.m. to respond to the situation, blocking off nearby schools and buildings, and urged residents in the area of the crime scene to stay indoors. The shooter is believed to have boarded a bus to escape after the murder, he was holding a black handgun, wearing a black sweatshirt and black baseball cap.
Police later named a 31-year-old man named Wilson (Gabriel Dewitt Wilson), who is about 1.88 meters tall and a current or former employee of the supermarket, as the person involved. By Tuesday afternoon, police announced that Wilson had been arrested in Hempstead.
Nassau County police said the dead man was a 49-year-old employee of the supermarket, while two other injured employees remained conscious and spoke to investigators. Some shocked employees told the media that they heard five to six shots fired from the floor above the manager’s office, and then fled the store. The supermarket also issued a statement saying it was alarmed and saddened by the shooting and would fully assist in the investigation.
