McCarthy proposes resolution condemning Waters’ privilege, 15 Democrats approve, Pelosi can’t stop it

On Monday, April 19, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told Breitbart News exclusively that he will take action to formally censure House Financial Services Committee (FSC) Chairman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) for she called for violence in Minnesota over the weekend.

Previously, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) refused to hold Waters accountable, and McCarthy’s move would force a vote on the censure resolution in the House because it is a privileged resolution and Pelosi cannot stop the vote from taking place. If the Democrats lose only three members in this vote, and all Republicans vote in favor, then Waters will be formally censured by the House and will likely lose his chairmanship of the Financial Services Committee. Because in the case of a successful House censure, Rule 25 of the House Democratic Caucus (House Democrat Caucus) rules could be invoked to formally strip Waters of his ability to serve as chairman of the Financial Services Committee.

McCarthy claimed on Monday’s Fox News show that as many as 15 Democrats could vote in favor of his motion to censure Waters. In modern history, there have only been five successful censures of sitting House members for reasons ranging from corruption to sexual promiscuity.

McCarthy’s statement, provided exclusively to Breitbart News prior to making the news public, makes clear that he believes Waters “violated curfew and broke the law” before he made comments “inciting violence” to reporters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, this weekend.

In a statement, McCarthy said, “Maxine Waters broke the law this weekend in Minnesota by violating curfew and then inciting violence. The increased unrest has already led to violence against law enforcement, and her comments are deliberately adding fuel to the fire. We have heard this violent rhetoric from Waters before, and the U.S. Congress must clearly and unreservedly rebuke this behavior before more people are harmed. But Speaker Pelosi has turned a blind eye to Waters’ actions, which is why I am introducing a resolution condemning Congressman Waters for his dangerous comments. I hope all of my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats alike, will stand up for peace on the streets of America.”

By Waters’ violent comments in the past, McCarthy was referring to 2018, when Waters told Californians that if they saw Trump administration workers in public, they should ‘punch them in the face’.

On Saturday night, Rep. Waters stood with protesters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, in support of days of protests against the death of Black Wright. Speaking to reporters, Waters specifically urged leftist protesters to be “more confrontational” if the jury in the case of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin does not return a murder verdict in Floyd’s death.

We’re looking for a guilty verdict,” Waters said. If nothing happens, then not only do we have to stay on the street, but we have to do justice. If we don’t get a guilty verdict for Shovan, we can’t leave the streets.”

In response to a question about what protesters should do if Shawan is not convicted of murder, Waters said, “We’re going to stay in the streets and we’re going to be more aggressive. We’re going to have to become more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure they know we’re coming for real.”

The video of Waters’ remarks went viral on social media, sparking public outrage, and McCarthy, on Sunday night, pressed Pelosi to take action against Waters for inciting violence. Pelosi has yet to act, other than to defend Waters and say she should not apologize for the comments.

In media interviews, Waters tried to pick up the pieces, defending herself by saying, “I’m talking about fighting the justice system, fighting the policing that’s going on, I’m talking about speaking up, I’m talking about legislation. I’m talking about elected officials doing what’s necessary to take control of the police budget and pass legislation.”

Waters believes that Republicans are trying to “twist” her words and that she “will not be bullied by the Republican Party.
