U.S. Intelligence Director Ratcliffe
On Monday (April 19), former U.S. intelligence director John Ratcliffe said it is more than clear that the Chinese Communist government is the number one national security threat to the United States. He said that in order to replace the U.S. international position, the Chinese Communist government has infiltrated multiple areas of economic, military and technological access, posing a significant challenge to the U.S. side.
Speaking at a forum at The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, Ratcliffe said the Chinese government’s infiltration in the technology sector is of great concern, saying the government is “fully invested in artificial intelligence, machine learning, biometrics. biometrics, which they know will accelerate the closing of the gap with the United States.”
He said that if one really reads the intelligence, it is very clear that the Chinese Communist Party “poses the greatest threat to U.S. national security.
On April 13 of this year, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released its annual threat assessment report, which states that the Chinese Communist Party poses the most significant challenge to U.S. national security, followed by Russia, Iran and North Korea.
The ODNI’s annual report states that the Chinese Communist Party challenges the U.S. in “multiple areas – particularly economically, militarily, and technologically” and also combines its military power “with economic, technological, and diplomatic influence to maintain its itself …… This approach comes at the expense of Washington’s (interests).” At the same time, ODNI criticized the Chinese Communist Party for trying to silence “U.S. criticism of its human rights abuses and for exerting pressure on political figures that Beijing perceives as opposing its interests.
The report warns that “Chinese conventional and nuclear forces are becoming more capable of putting American lives at risk and predicts that the Communist Party will attempt to build more overseas military bases. In addition, ODNI expects the Beijing government to continue to increase its military activities around Taiwan, which could lead to “increased friction” between the United States and China.
Ratcliffe said Monday that the Chinese Communist Party and Russia are also trying to exert influence in the space sector by attempting to jam U.S. communications facilities, saying that China and Russia are keen on missiles that can strike satellites and lasers that can damage satellite imagery systems, and that “in these ways they can hinder our space capabilities and undermine our space dominance.”
In addition, he also noted that European countries are not doing themselves any favors by trying to find a balance between China and the United States. Europe must join forces with the United States to fight the Chinese Communist Party.
“They need to stand closely with the U.S. because they can’t compete with the Chinese, they don’t have the volume to compete with the Chinese, for example, in these areas of artificial intelligence. So U.S.-European cooperation needs to become closer, and we should work more closely together,” Ratcliffe said.
