EU diplomatic chiefs Risk escalates as Russia builds up 150,000 troops around Ukraine

Russia has amassed 150,000 troops along the Ukrainian border and in Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Russia, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on April 19.

Josep Borrell told reporters after talks that were also attended by Ukraine’s foreign minister, “This is the largest ever deployment of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border.” He would not disclose the source of the figures.

He warned, “There is clearly a risk of further escalation.”
