The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) issued a news release stating that it has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google Inc. The release states that “the Federal Antimonopoly Service believes that Google abused its dominant market position in the video service YouTube, resulting in the sudden blocking and deletion of user accounts.”
The investigation is said to have been initiated by a statement from the regional public organization “Regional Center for Internet Technology and Society”, which complained about the blocking and deletion of its YouTube account and content.
The department noted that the rules of the service are opaque, non-objective and unpredictable, which can lead to sudden restrictions without warning and justification. This can lead to violation of users’ interests and restrict competition.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation assesses the consequences of Google’s actions on its audience and content creators within the framework of hearing the case.
