The newest addition to Huawei’s Kirin chip family is the Kirin 990A, a chip that has never existed before and is used in cars. And Huawei said that Kirin 990A chip, at least enough to use 2 years, the inventory is still very adequate.

Kirin 990A, using the ARM architecture, its core design is 4 cores Tarzan V120 (small) + 4 cores based on ARM V7A series Vortex A55.

And the GPU part is using Mary G76, in addition Huawei also added Da Vinci architecture AI cores, respectively 2 D110 + 1 D100 size core.

From the naming, this chip is based on Kirin 990 chip to modify the build. However, we should note that this is a car chip, that is, a chip for the car computer (not autopilot), and theoretically not a car-grade chip, and of course it will be very different from a normal cell phone chip.

As for what performance is achieved, there is no specific test data, you can refer to is Qualcomm. Qualcomm’s current mass-produced high-end car chip is Qualcomm SA8155P, 8-core architecture, using a 7nm process.

Qualcomm this chip is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 modified, with 1 super core main frequency 2.4GHZ, 3 large core main frequency 2.1GHZ, 4 low-power core main frequency 1.8GHZ, in performance than Qualcomm 855 slightly lower than about 15-20%.

Qualcomm has also released a 5nm car chip this year, but there is not much car use, the car with a 5nm car chip may have to be on the road next year, the mainstream of Qualcomm car chip or this one SA8155P.
