Woman shouts “brake failure” at Shanghai auto show to defend her rights Tesla responds

Tesla has been in a lot of trouble lately. After the death of two people in Texas due to driverless driving, a female Tesla owner stood on the roof of her car at the Shanghai Auto Show in China and shouted “brake failure”, which caused concern and made the Weibo search.

Tesla responded to the owner’s rights: the owner suffered a speeding accident 2 months ago

According to Guangzhou’s 21st Century Business Herald, on April 19, the first day of the 2021 Shanghai International Auto Show media day, two women appeared at the Tesla booth wearing T-shirts with the words “Brake Failure”. One of the women acted aggressively, climbing on top of the car and smashing it. After the two women were taken away by security guards, a large cordon was set up around the Tesla booth and more than 10 security guards were on hand to maintain order. At around 11:45, the cordon was removed and the Tesla booth was reopened.

Tesla responded to Beijing’s “New Beijing News” shell financial reporter, saying that regarding the irrational behavior of the owner that occurred at the auto show site today, we learned that the person in question was the owner of the previous speeding violation that occurred in February in Anyang, Henan.

It is understood that this morning, the car owner obtained documents to enter the exhibition hall through unconventional means, live-streamed around the booth, revealed a customized rights defense T-shirt and climbed on the roof of the car to shout. We repeatedly verbally persuaded the behavior after noticing it, but the owner did not stop his irrational behavior. After consultation with the show organizer, the organizer coordinated with public security enforcement officers to persuade the car owner to leave, considering that the behavior seriously affected public order.

Previously, the owner had a collision due to a speeding violation and insisted on the return of the car on the grounds of product quality.

Tesla said that in the past two months, the company has always maintained active consultation with the owner, expressed willingness to assist in completing repairs and insurance claims, while proposing a variety of solutions, but was strongly rejected by the owner, and does not accept any form of third-party testing. In the future, Tesla will continue to communicate closely to help owners resume their normal car life as soon as possible.

Tesla’s quality problems are frequent

Since Tesla’s mass production in China in 2020, it has been hotly anticipated, but the frequency of accidents such as Tesla door failure, spontaneous combustion and abnormal acceleration is also increasing. Guangzhou’s 21st Century Business Herald collated public reports and information and found that since last year, more than 10 serious traffic accidents caused by “abnormal acceleration” or “brake failure” have occurred in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanchang and other places.

Beijing “New Beijing News” shell finance also found that many owners of Tesla electric cars have black screen, sensor failure, system power shortage, power loss when stationary and other problems, and the purchase time of these owners is often not more than a year.

In response to these accidents, Tesla officials will usually come up with data, pointing out that most of them are “due to driver error”, the vehicle itself does not have defects. However, many owners reported that the vehicle suddenly went out of control and “did not mistake the gas pedal for the brake”. Both sides argue with each other.

It is worth noting that, for the two recent accidents that occurred in Henan and Hainan, and different from the past, Tesla side have made a response in a relatively quick time. However, after Tesla’s response, the owners were quick to refute Tesla’s statement, and the two accidents continued to fester.

Not long ago, China’s State Administration of Market Supervision (SAMS) issued a news release saying that it, together with the Central Internet Information Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport and the Fire and Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Emergency Management, interviewed Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co. regarding abnormal acceleration, battery fires and vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) issues reported by consumers.

Musk admits Tesla’s unstable quality

Tesla CEO Musk has not shied away from quality issues with Tesla, admitting in an interview that “it’s probably not a good idea to buy a Tesla during the trial production of a new model. Tesla cars are produced like hell and are still climbing the mass production stage, so it is difficult to ensure that all the details are not problematic.” In addition, Musk also revealed to himself that the early Model S seats were probably the worst of any car he had ever sat in.

But the worrying quality does not affect Tesla’s sales. Data show that in 2020, Tesla’s global sales accumulated 500,000, not only completed their goals, but also sat in the global sales of new energy vehicles “top chair”.

In addition, on March 18 this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration disclosed that it had launched an investigation into 27 Tesla car crashes, many of which may be related to Tesla’s Autopilot system.

Musk said on social media last week that a public beta version of the fully automated driving software has been issued to about 2,000 Tesla owners. Statistically, there have been at least three fatal Tesla crashes in the U.S. since 2016, all of which were in Autopilot mode at the time of their occurrence.

Tesla advises drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and stay focused when using Autopilot mode. However, some Tesla drivers claim that they do not keep their hands on the wheel for long periods of time when using Autopilot mode.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says they believe that the fully automated driving system does not make Tesla cars self-driving, and that the most advanced technology available for purchase today only provides driver assistance and still requires the driver to maintain full attention and monitor his or her surroundings at all times.
