The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) sued U.S. Internet company Google on Monday (19), accusing its video platform YouTube of abusing its dominant market position by deleting or blocking a large number of users’ accounts.
In May last year, YouTube deleted the accounts of several Russian-language news organizations, leaving tens of millions of users without access to their videos. Russia said at the time that Youtube’s move violated account hosting rules.
The Russian government fined Google 500,000 rubles (about HK$60,000) in late 2018 for failing to filter illegal messages from search results, in violation of Russian law.
