Asian conservatives call for sobriety amidst anti-hate wave, “All for One America”

Unlike the recent big media campaigns against Asian hatred, the One People One America and Stop All Hates rallies were aimed at “fighting racial division” and “fighting hatred of all races,” and included demands such as “enforcing law and order,” “opposing SB82” and “opposing critical theory education.

Residents held signs that read “One People One America” and “No to SB82.

On April 17, people from Orange County and Los Angeles gathered in the central plaza of the Irvine Municipal Building where Korean California Assemblyman Steven Choi, Chinese Irvine City Councilman Anthony Kuo, Vietnamese Fountain Valley City Councilman Ted Bui, Irvine Finance Commissioner John Park and more than a dozen others spoke. The rally was hosted by Marc Ang, president of the Asian Industry Association (AIB2B), and James Mai, CEO of Bristol Bates LLC.

Reasons for the increase in crime

Many people immigrate to the U.S. because it offers individuals the opportunity for equality and growth,” said George, a resident. It’s not about race, it’s about some draconian laws pushed by the left that have caused the deterioration in policing that is responsible for the increase in crime, including hate crimes.”

“California’s Bill 47 makes burglary under $950 a misdemeanor and only releases (burglars) when caught; SB82, now introduced, would make some robberies misdemeanors and allow criminals whose trials are over to request a new trial. These laws are encouraging people to commit crimes and receive only very light (or no) punishment.”

SB82 was introduced by 9th District State Senator Nancy Skinner, who served as a state representative from 2008 to 2014; and as a state senator from 2016 to the present. She has sponsored several bills that give the green light to offenders: AB2607 (ending juvenile detention and replacing it with foster homes), AB999 (reducing juvenile incarceration time), the Recidivism Reinvestment Fund, SB394 (diversion program for minor defendants), SB1421 (open police enforcement records), SB1437 (redefining felony murder), SB310 (allowing felons to serve on jury service), and SB82 (reducing the sentence for robbery, etc.).

Hong said, “I see a lot of rallies talking about victims or complaining about problems, but they don’t see why criminals are free to roam the streets.”

Last year, Governor Newsom released more than 20,000 inmates on no bail in the name of preventing the spread of the epidemic in prisons, and some of them returned to society to commit crimes again. L.A. County Attorney George Gascon, who took office at the end of 2020, made significant policy changes upon taking office, including ending the bail system, converting death sentences to life sentences (with the possibility of parole after 20-30 years): prohibiting prosecutors from bringing special circumstance aggravators against offenders, such as not counting his prior criminal history, disregarding gang crimes and hate crimes, etc.

George said, “Since last summer, police enforcement has been restricted again, funding has been cut, police departments have been eliminated and the number of police officers has been reduced, and police officers are also attacked by public opinion for discriminating in their disposition if the offender is a minority. Cases like the Joe State massage parlor shooting, where a white man shot six Asian and two white victims, are portrayed in the media as hating Asians, but the killer claims to be motivated by sexual crimes rather than racial hatred.”

Ted Bay said that statistically, only California and New York have seen an increase in Asian hate crimes and people should think about why, while states like Texas and Colorado, for example, have not seen an increase.

Asians should be more involved in local affairs

Anthony Kuo welcomed everyone to Irvine, referring to a letter from someone President Reagan quoted in his speech: You can go to Japan and not be Japanese; you can also go to France, Germany or Turkey, but you won’t be French, German or Turkish; but people from all over the world can come to America and be American.

We are here to call for unity among all ethnicities and to reject hatred of all ethnicities,” said Parker, chairman of the Greater Irvine Area Republican Party and an Irvine official. Asians honor hard work, hard work and taking care of their families, not demanding certain distinctions and preferential treatment.”

I think people need to understand history,” said former Orange City Councilman Fred Whitaker, “The Declaration of Independence of 1776 says that all of us were given certain inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by our creator, and today conservatives are told that white supremacy or the Republican Party wants to divide people. The truth is that Republican President Lincoln proclaimed the Emancipation Proclamation, along with fighting for the 13th-15th Amendments, and also advocating for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Republican Party is the party that stands for individual liberty, individual responsibility, and small government, and those who advocate collectivism, totalitarianism, and racism need the power of big government.”

Do Asians really live in a hated environment? Crystal Jade, a resident, said, “I’m not afraid to say I’m Chinese and I wear cheongsam because there is not the kind of racial hatred that is currently being propagated, and we should all respect each other whether you are left leaning or right leaning. I’m not running for political office, but I can do the rest, I speak at the Orange County Board of Supervisors. I’m sad that the Democratic Party has gone communist, so next election, please vote for a candidate who holds Republican ideas.”

Choi Seok-ho’s call: the Biden administration should take real action instead of just paying lip service, one of which is to strengthen law enforcement. Rep. Choi Seok-ho introduced AB892 this year, which called for the registration of sex offenders, but it did not make it through the panel. In addition, once the Biden administration took office, it dropped the case against Yale University for discriminating against Asians, while the “elite” universities have been discriminating against Asians in admissions and giving preferential treatment to certain races for years.

Yony Moon, a Korean-American resident, denounced the leftist media for creating a farce that is dividing the country. “The left is indoctrinating young people with radical ideas and leading our children in the wrong direction, so I encourage everyone to make sure they talk to their children and help them ‘detox’; tell them how we came to America and how lucky they are. My grandfather was almost killed by the North Korean army and American planes flew in so my grandfather could live and immigrate to America.”

George said, “The ethnic studies curriculum that is going to be implemented in California divides people into oppressors and oppressed by ethnicity, gender, etc. Whites are considered the oppressors and Asians are considered the immediate neighbors of whites, and under critical theory (CRT) the ethnic studies curriculum believes that America is built on racism and oppression above all else, and that is a lie. Those of us who have escaped from continental dictatorships know what that means, and we are more familiar than Americans with this class struggle that constantly divides people into groups for people to fight each other. We need to stop local education departments and not let them divide this country and not let our children be brainwashed by this very communist agenda.”

In the face of the current chaos in America, Moon said, “It’s always darkest before the dawn, but I believe this country will recover. We need people to pay attention to local government affairs and get involved in governance, and we need to make changes at the local level first.”
