Justice Department Sues Roger Stone: Nearly $2 Million in Unpaid Taxes Stone Says I Will Win

The Breitbart News reported Sunday, April 18, that the U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil lawsuit Friday in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, against Roger Stone and his wife, alleging that the couple owes about $2 million in federal income taxes.

The lawsuit contends that the Stones owed federal income taxes between 2007 and 2011 and in 2018, and asks the court to collect those income taxes. The lawsuit asserts that the Stones’ Drake Ventures LLC is liable for these taxes. Similarly, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a claim against the Bertran Family Revocable Trust, which holds title to the Stone residence.

The suit argues that although the Stones used funds in the Derek Risk account to pay some of their taxes, their use of the Derek Risk holdings allowed them to prevent their personal income from being forced to be taxed and to finance a lavish lifestyle, despite owing nearly $2 million in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties.

However, the New York Post said Stone said his tax returns have long been public and that it was a “ridiculous joke” to call the lifestyle lavish.

Stone commented, “This is yet another example of Democrats violating the rule of law and weaponizing the Justice Department. I will fight these politically motivated charges, and I will prevail again.”

Roger Stone, who is nearly 60 years old, has been involved in the campaigns of Republicans Nixon, Reagan, and Trump since the 1970s, and the lobbying firm he founded, in the 1990s, was well known among corporate America and foreign organizations.

Stone left the Trump campaign in August 2015, and in January 2019, Stone was arrested at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in connection with the Mueller investigation and charged with witness tampering, obstructing an investigation and making false statements. on Nov. 15, 2019, Stone was convicted on all seven counts of the charges against him. On Feb. 20 of last year, Stone was sentenced to 40 months in prison and fined $20,000, scheduled to be executed on July 14. on July 10, President Trump announced a commutation of Stone’s sentence, which remains in effect, although it can be served without prejudice. on Dec. 23, 2020, Trump pardoned Roger Stone on the grounds that the Mueller investigation was unfair.
