The National Pulse reported on Saturday, April 17, that amid questions about whether the CCP virus originated at the Wuhan Virus Institute, the CCP put the new Biosafety Law into effect on April 15 anyway, providing legal cover for the establishment and safe operation of more biological laboratories in the country.
Xiang Libin, vice minister of science and technology of the CCP, said that under the new Biosafety Law, it will continue to build and approve more advanced pathogenic microbiology specialty laboratories in a rigorous and scientific manner. He said the ministry has reviewed and approved the construction of three additional biosafety level 4 laboratories (i.e., P4 laboratories) and 88 biosafety level 3 laboratories (i.e., P3 laboratories) in China.
Biosafety level (BSL), or pathogen/protection level, refers to the biocontainment precautions required to isolate hazardous biological agents in a closed laboratory. Containment levels range from the lowest biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) to the highest level 4 (BSL-4).
Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said last April that China has two P4 laboratories in addition to the 81 P3 laboratories in operation or approved for construction.
This approval of three additional P4 labs and 88 P3 labs more than doubles the number of P3 and P4 labs within the Chinese (Communist) territory, said National Pulse.
