A Taiwanese fisherman recently saw a Chinese frigate cross the median line in the Taiwan Strait, another incident of frequent disturbances by Chinese military aircraft and warships, and coinciding with a meeting between the U.S. and Japanese heads of state. The U.S. and Japanese heads issued a joint statement on April 16, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan’s Liberty Times reported on April 17 that at 4 p.m. on April 15, a Taiwanese fisherman directly photographed a Chinese Navy Type 054A guided missile frigate crossing the Taiwan Strait west of the center line and passing through the Taiwan Strait at high speed from north to south.
The fishermen photographed the frigate with the number 532, according to the verification, is the Chinese navy frigate “Jingzhou”.
Taiwan fishermen directly photographed the “Jingzhou” cross the border again, the longitude and latitude at 118 degrees 52-889 minutes east, 22 degrees 44-939 minutes north, 40 nautical miles southwest of Chimei, which is also commonly known as Taiwan shallow pile. The “Jingzhou” also appeared in the shallow pile of Taiwan on April 4.
The report said that Taiwan shallow pile has always been the traditional fishing grounds of Taiwan fishermen, but in recent years, in addition to Chinese fishing boats crossed the border fishing, and Chinese gravel ships gathered in large numbers to steal sand and gravel, seriously affecting the ecology, and now there is a Chinese naval ship crossing the center line of the strait, making it a sensitive area across the Taiwan Strait.
The newspaper quoted informed sources as saying that Taiwan’s shallow pile is near the center line of the strait, but geographically closer to Taiwan, and both sides will send warships to patrol from time to time to protect fishery and declare sovereignty actions.
In response to the move of the Chinese frigate, Taiwan’s navy said that everything is under control and has initiated joint surveillance, but the matter is a state secret, it is not convenient to disclose the relevant details.
Recently, Chinese military aircraft and warships have frequently disturbed Taiwan. After passing through the main island of Okinawa and Miyako Island on April 3, the Liaoning ship crossed the first island chain and sailed to the Pacific Ocean, and conducted training in the waters around Taiwan on April 4.
According to the Taiwan Air Force’s April 13 release, Chinese military aircraft have been disturbing Taiwan for 11 consecutive days since April 3. The largest of these was the entry of 25 military aircraft into Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on April 12, the largest since Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense began announcing the dynamics of CCP military aircraft on Sept. 17 last year.
On March 26 of this year, 20 Chinese military aircraft intruded into Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone. The day before, the U.S. and Taiwan jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Maritime Patrol Working Group
The U.S.-Japan Joint Leadership Statement: A Global Partnership for a New Generation was released on April 16, during Japanese Prime Minister Kan’s visit to the U.S. The statement emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and encouraged the peaceful resolution of Taiwan Strait issues.
On the afternoon of April 17, Taiwan time, Taiwan Executive Yuan spokesman Luo Bingcheng said that the Taiwan Executive Yuan is very grateful for the long-standing firm support of international like-minded countries for Taiwan, especially for their concern for Taiwan’s security. At this moment when China (the Chinese Communist Party) frequently sends military aircraft to disturb Taiwan, the government of the Republic of China is pleased to see and affirm the bilateral joint statement of the United States and Japan.
