Boeing 737 MAX circuit problems expand, engineers uncover similar conditions

Circuit problems in U.S. airplane maker Boeing Co.’s 737 MAX airliners last week grounded dozens of them worldwide. Industry sources said today that engineers found similar grounding defects elsewhere in the cockpit and that the circuitry problems expanded.

Reuters reported that Boeing Co. warned last week of production-related circuit grounding problems in the cockpit’s backup power control system on some recently built planes; several airlines were warned and suspended dozens of MAX jets from service.

Engineers later found suspected grounding problems in two other locations in the cockpit, including the storage shelf where the defective control system is located and the instrument panel in front of the pilot, the sources said.

News of the expanding circuit grounding problem was first disclosed by Aviation Week, which Boeing has not yet commented on.
