The U.S. government announced Friday (April 16) that it will invest $1.7 billion to create a nationwide network to identify and track variants of the Chinese Communist virus.
Slavitt, senior advisor to the White House Outbreak Response Team: “Today, we are announcing a $1.7 billion investment to strengthen the capacity of the CDC, state and local public health departments to monitor, track and defeat emerging threats, whether they are today’s variants of the CCP virus or other viruses generated through genome sequencing in the future. “
Even though the U.S. has increased vaccination efforts, more dangerous variants of the virus are on the rise, causing increased cases of infection, Slavitt said. That makes it even more important to quickly test and find the genetic sequence of the virus.
The National Cyber Strategy, unveiled by the White House that day, consists of three parts.
The first is to provide significant funding for the CDC and state health departments to step up genetic mapping of the CDC virus.
The second is a partnership with universities to establish “centers of excellence” to research and develop genetic-based pathogen detection technologies.
The third is to establish data systems to better share information on emerging disease threats and translate knowledge analysis into substantive action.
In addition, the White House panel on epidemics said that despite the suspension of Johnson & Johnson vaccines, the public can have confidence in the vaccines provided by the state, and that the vast majority of the more than 7 million people who have received Johnson & Johnson vaccines have not experienced any problems.
