Pfizer CEO: New crown vaccine may have to be given annually

Albert Bourla, chief executive officer of Pfizer, said in an interview that people will likely need to receive another booster dose within 12 months of receiving two doses of the New Crown vaccine. In addition, he said, people are likely to need the vaccine every year to prevent New Coronavirus infection.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said in an interview at a CVS Health event that people will likely need another booster dose within 12 months of receiving two doses of the New Coronavirus vaccine, Bourla said in the interview.

Controlling susceptibility to New Coronavirus is extremely important, and the vaccine will be an important tool in the fight against the highly infectious variant.

According to reports, Bourla’s statement was made on April 1, but the actual announcement was made on Thursday.

Prior to that, in February, Pfizer and BioNTech said they were testing a third dose of the new crown vaccine to better understand the possible immune response to the variant.

For the booster dose injection, not only Bourla but also some in the U.S. government have expressed the need. Earlier Thursday, David Kessler, chief scientist of the Biden administration’s New Crown Task Force, said Americans should be prepared to receive a booster dose of the New Crown vaccine to avoid infection by a variant of the New Crown virus. kessler told the House subcommittee on New Crown that the currently licensed vaccine is highly protective, but that new virus variants could make the vaccine’s effectiveness “challenged”.

We don’t know anything right now, we’re looking at the persistence of the antibody response, and the response appears to be strong, but there is some attenuation. There’s no question that virus variants make it harder for vaccines to be effective. So I think that even if it’s just for planning purposes, we should be prepared that we may have to get a booster dose shot.

In addition, Bourla said in an interview that people may need to be vaccinated every year to prevent new coronavirus infections, a statement similar to one made by Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky in February. Gorsky argued at the time that people might need to get the annual New Crown vaccine to prevent the virus, just as they do with the seasonal flu vaccine.

Pfizer’s CEO is not the only pharmaceutical executive to say that booster doses of the vaccine are needed. In an interview the previous Wednesday, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said he hoped to offer a booster dose of the company’s two-dose New Crown vaccine this fall.
