Although the pandemic has worn Canadians down and the third wave of the epidemic has worsened to the point of distraction, it doesn’t seem to have affected the planet’s opinion of Canada, which has just been ranked number one for the first time in the 2021 Best Countries in the World report!
For the last six years, US News & World Report has published its annual ranking of the world’s best countries, which, as in previous years, was conducted in conjunction with the BAV Group and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In this study and ranking, Switzerland, which has been relegated to the number one position in the world since 2017, was overtaken by Canada in the latest ranking, and not only is Switzerland not in second place, but its ranking dropped to fourth place, the Toronto-based website blogTO reported.
In the ranking of the best countries, Canada had ranked second in 2020, then third in 2019 and first this year, rising one position each year for the last three years until the top.
The top three countries are Canada, Japan and Germany.
The countries ranked fourth to sixth are: Switzerland, Australia and the United States.
The countries ranked seventh through ninth are: New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
In tenth to twelfth place: the Netherlands, France and Denmark.
In thirteenth to fifteenth place: Norway, Singapore and South Korea.
In sixteenth to eighteenth place: Italy, China and Finland.
The nineteenth to twenty-first are: Spain, Belgium and Austria.
The study rated and ranked 78 countries around the world, using a large sample of 17,000 participants from 36 countries and 76 indicators, including economy, military strength, education and quality of life. Of these participants, more than 10,000 are referred to as the “elite”, nearly 5,000 are business decision makers, and the rest are collectively referred to as the general public.
As a result of the changing international landscape and world events, a new set of indicators was added this year, including racial equality, commitment to social justice, adaptability, and commitment to climate goals. The report commented that “Canada) is perceived as having a good job market, a concern for human rights and a commitment to social justice. In addition, Canada ranked first in terms of clean government and respect for property rights.” Canada also ranked first in quality of life and social purpose. It ranked sixth in entrepreneurship, third among most business-friendly countries, and third in flexibility.
