Brooke Rollins, then director of the Domestic Policy Council and now president and CEO of AFPI, speaks at the White House on Dec. 16, 2020.
Some of former President Donald Trump’s cabinet members and senior advisers launched the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) on Tuesday (April 13) to further promote “policies that put the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) on Tuesday to further promote a policy of putting the American people first. And Trump applauded them for this action.
In a video released Tuesday, AFPI President and CEO Brooke Rollins said, “The America First Policy Institute was launched to continue the transformational change that has occurred over the past four years.” Rollins previously served as director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Trump administration. Prior to that, she headed the White House Office of American Innovation.
“The Trump administration’s policy agenda has created the greatest economy of our lifetime,” Rollins said in a statement, “and we will innovate and advocate for policies that put the American people first. That means securing our nation’s borders, reinvigorating American industry, and re-establishing America’s primacy. And most importantly, restoring optimism among Americans.”
In a statement, Trump said, “The patriots who formed the ‘America First Policy Institute’ are some of the greatest leaders our nation has ever seen, champions of the freedom, free enterprise and national greatness our country has ever seen, and putting American workers, families and communities first .”
Trump added, “Linda McMahon, Brooke Rollins, Larry Kudlow, Rick Perry, General Kellogg and the other freedom fighters at AFPI have my full support as they work to not only preserve my administration’s historic accomplishments, but also to move the America First agenda into the future. I look forward to working with them to save America.”
McMahon, the director of the Small Business Administration during the Trump administration, reportedly serves as AFPI’s board chairman. McMahon is also one of the top donors to Trump’s 2020 campaign. In a statement, McMahon said, “We will not stop working until the government truly serves the people.”
Kudlow, Trump’s economic adviser, serves as vice chairman of AFPI’s board of directors; Perry, Trump’s energy secretary, serves as chairman of AFPI’s Center for Energy Independence. Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and former Vice President Mike Pence’s national security adviser, General Keith Kellogg, will co-chair AFPI’s Center for American Security. Ratcliffe said, “He’s grateful for the opportunity.”
Separately, AFPI Chief Communications Officer Rachael Slobodien confirmed that Trump’s oldest daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner are informal advisers to the nonprofit.
AFPI said on its website that it will promote policies to secure the border, promote merit-based immigration, and safeguard electoral integrity, and will promote policies that “respect life, preserve God-given liberty, uphold free speech, and restore basic humanity.
The AFPI said they will pursue a hard-line Chinese (Communist) policy, saying they will “study and develop policies that examine how decades of U.S. accommodation to Communist China has produced a living adversary to our country and our livelihood as we know it.
AFPI, the largest pro-Trump outside group, has a budget of $20 million for its first year, according to U.S. media outlet Axios. aFPI’s work will be run by 20 policy centers. “The centers are led by 40 of the most qualified, people-first leaders from the Trump administration and the conservative movement.”
