Floyd case to yellow? National Police Use of Force Evaluation Expert: Officer Shovan Did Not Use Deadly Force

The Gateway Pundit said Tuesday that the Floyd prosecution’s case is going down the drain! But arson, robbery, and vandalism are coming. An All-American police use of force testified in court that day that Officer Shovan did not use deadly force in arresting Floyd.

Mr. Barry Brood, an All-American police use of force expert, told jurors that the Minneapolis officers were fully justified in keeping Floyd face down and handcuffed based on his resisting-arrest response at the time. This approach is safer for both the officers and the suspect, he said, because the suspect’s ability to move is limited, his ability to self-harm is reduced and the face-down position tends to keep his airway open if he feels nauseous and wants to vomit.

Bruder concluded that Officer Shovan’s interaction with Floyd at the time of his arrest was objective and reasonable, without excessive force. Bruder concludes that the arrest of Floyd was not a lethal use of force.

He gave the example of an officer arriving on the scene of a domestic violence call, and the domestic violence suspect instead fought with the officer, who had to use a taser, and while tripping the suspect, the officer tasered him so hard to the head that the suspect died from his injuries. When I analyze this situation, I have to determine if the force used by the officer was appropriate based on the strength of the suspect’s resistance to arrest, Bruder said.
