Wong Chi-fung received a new four-month sentence on charges of participating in an assembly in violation of the law

The former secretary-general of Hong Kong’s Hong Kong House of Representatives, Wong Chi-fung, who is currently serving a prison sentence in Hong Kong, was sentenced to four months in prison for participating in an unauthorized demonstration in 2019 and violating the law against masking, a Hong Kong court said today.

According to a Hong Kong media report cited by the Central News Agency today, the charge alleges that the former secretary-general of the Hong Kong House of Representatives, Wong Chi-fung, knowingly participated in an unauthorized rally on October 5, 2019, during which he also used masked objects that could prevent identification, in violation of the no-masking law; the same case was also charged with social activist Koo Sze Yiu.

The case was tried today in Eastern District Court. The judge found both men guilty and sentenced Wong Chi-fung to four months in prison and Gu Si-yao to five months.

The report said that in addition to this case, Wong Chi-fung was sentenced to 13 and a half months in prison last December for inciting others to knowingly participate in an unauthorized assembly, and has been serving that sentence.
