Taiwan apparel brands accused of screening “made in China” and “Xinjiang cotton” keywords on their official websites

The apparel brand Lativ (Miguel International), which started out as “Made in Taiwan”, only broke out in February this year to remove the controversy over the origin label on its product page. Recently, another consumer claimed that when the official website left a message asking whether it was “made in China” or “Xinjiang cotton”, the page popped up “Your comment contains special words, we suggest you change the relevant content. ” When we contacted the phone number on the official website of Miguel International, we were only able to reach a customer service representative, who could not respond to questions.

Ren Ruiting from China’s Autumn Rain Church is currently living in Taiwan with her family. Last year, she saw the brand “MIT Taiwan” on the lativ website, so she went to the website to buy it. “. When Rui-ting Ren tried to leave a message on the lativ website, she encountered a more puzzling situation.

Rita Ren: “It’s hard to imagine this kind of thing before. I originally ‘Chinese system’, ‘Xinjiang cotton’ to write the original text, and then he said it was ‘special word’, I first changed the new ‘Jiang ‘cotton or not, I revised the ‘Chinese system’, and finally can. I was changed after these two before passing.”

Ren Ruiting showed this station, she wrote a purchase review in Lativ, “see ‘made in China’ have doubts, because I do not want to use the ‘Xinjiang cotton’, I hope the brand can also explain on the good. ” I didn’t expect the lativ page to pop up, “I’m sorry, your review contains special words, we suggest you modify the relevant content.”

Ren Ruiting said lativ did not respond to questions about the use of “Xinjiang cotton,” nor did it respond to questions about “special words. He observed that Taiwanese consumers do not seem to be paying much attention to related issues. “People are scolding the stars who support ‘Xinjiang cotton’, but in fact, it is very much like not caring about this matter. The brand originally said it was ‘made in Taiwan’, but now the message has been removed, hiding the place of production, I’m quite sensitive to this because I don’t want to buy ‘made in China’.”

When the station called the only phone number on Lativ’s website, the customer service representative only responded, “This is a customer service related phone number and cannot respond to other questions.”

Taipei City Councilor Boya Miao told the station that the lativ “special word” incident should first be clarified whether the manufacturer was negligent in using the wrong code or deliberately cooperated with the speech censorship.

If it is negligence, it must be corrected immediately to protect consumers’ right to ask questions and reflect their opinions. If it is deliberate cooperation with speech censorship, then the manufacturer has clearly abandoned its corporate social responsibility and will lose the trust of consumers.
