Police in Brooklyn Center release video of shooting of Wright

The Gateway Pundit reported Monday that police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, released surveillance video of the moment 20-year-old Daunte Wright was shot and killed that day.

Police said on Sunday that Brooklyn Center police officers in body-worn cameras, and a car recorder, recorded the information. Body camera video released Monday shows a female officer who thought she was using a Taser and shot Wright, who has been identified as Officer Kim Potter.

The video shows Officer Potter telling Wright that she would “taser” him and then yelling, “Taser, taser, taser,” as Wright was trying to get back into his car and drive away. Then Officer Porter fired, and after reacting, the officer said in surprise, “Holy shit, I just shot him.

Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said at a news conference Monday that he believes Officer Porter fired by mistake and that she thought she was using a Taser. Calling the shooting of Wright an “accidental discharge,” the police chief said, “I believe that the officer intended to use a Taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet. “

The video shows Wright resisting arrest and fleeing the scene. When police handcuffed Wright during a traffic stop, Wright broke free and jumped into his car.

Sheriff Gannon said Officer Porter has been placed on administrative leave. Gannon said Officer Porter is a “very senior officer” with 26 years of police service and is the president of the local police union.

Gannon added, “In my opinion, it was an accidental discharge that resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Wright.” Gannon said the officers were trained to carry their Tasers on the non-primary hand side of their belts and their guns on the primary hand side.

Sheriff Gannon said a criminal investigation will be conducted into the case.
