The 2018 China International Energy Industry Expo (CIEI), held in Taiyuan, was “approved by the State Council” and “co-sponsored” by two Communist government entities, the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanxi Provincial Government. Turk, a pro-Obama administration member, was the deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) when he attended the fair in 2018.
In an interview with the Communist Party’s state broadcaster during the event, Turk praised China as a “leader” in all forms of renewable energy and described it as a “key driver of global energy trends.
