As U.S. presidential climate envoy John Kerry approaches his visit to China, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) warned Monday (April 12) that Biden’s climate policy would have disastrous consequences for the United States by profiting a genocidal Chinese Communist regime.
In an article on Fox News Monday, Rubio said Biden’s green energy plan is a big gift to the Chinese Communist Party. He also explained how the policy would hurt the United States and benefit the Chinese Communist Party.
“At the heart of Biden’s climate plan is a call to shift large swaths of our energy infrastructure to what he calls ‘clean energy.’ That means buying millions of solar panels, electric car charging stations and other expensive green infrastructure from industries that China (the Chinese Communist Party) dominates the production of.” Rubio said. In other words, the new solar panels that the Biden administration wants Americans to install on the roofs of their homes will come from China; the Chinese Communist Party’s industrial base will profit from this; the Biden administration is ensuring the dominance of the Chinese Communist Party’s manufacturing industry?
Rubio also said that the Chinese Communist Party dominates the renewable energy industry because China has been investing in these industries for years through massive government subsidies. If the United States is going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on renewable energy, it should not spend it on rewarding the CCP with profits from a regime that practices genocide.
A serious energy policy needs to ensure two things
Rubio argues that U.S. energy policy should focus on how to build domestic production and create good jobs in the United States.
Rubio said any serious plan should ensure two things: First, it should make clear that the money will not go to China, with a “no Chinese” clause that would provide a huge incentive for U.S. manufacturers and manufacturers from other countries to fill the gap; second, the plan should raise the domestic content requirements for products and implement a “Buy American” requirements to stimulate significant domestic investment in these areas.
Rubio said that after the U.S. achieves energy independence for the first time since the 1950s in 2019, Biden’s plan would make the U.S. dependent on foreign competitors again.
“What does it mean for American families and the future of the United States when Beijing’s entire goal is to displace American political, cultural and military leadership? We got a taste of that when China (the Chinese Communist Party) threatened to cut off exports of masks and other protective equipment at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Clean energy stained with the blood of CCP’s forced laborers will not be clean
Rubio said Biden’s plan would encourage and reward the CCP’s horrific industry practices. For example, in the past few years, the CCP has dominated components of solar panels such as polysilicon to the point where half of the world’s production now takes place in Xinjiang.
Rubio added that if the U.S. follows Biden’s plan to massively increase its purchase of solar panels from China, U.S. taxpayer money could be used to buy Chinese products produced by the forced labor of Uighurs and other enslaved people in Xinjiang. “This concern is so great that last month, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) and I sent a letter to the Solar Energy Industries Association asking about the integrity of the U.S. solar supply chain. Clean energy is not clean when its production is tainted with the blood of forced labor.”
“Don’t be fooled by Biden; his administration’s plan is not an infrastructure bill, or even a green energy bill. It is a pro-China (Communist Party of China) bill that will grow the Communist Party of China at the expense of American jobs.” Rubio said.
The Washington Post says Biden’s climate envoy, Kerry, is expected to travel to China this week to try to work with the Chinese Communist Party on climate change. The article cites sources familiar with the matter as saying that Kerry is expected to travel to Shanghai to meet with Chinese Communist Party officials. The trip is the first official visit to China by a senior Biden administration official.
In a Feb. 21 Wall Street Journal editorial titled “Why Beijing Loves Biden and Paris,” the Wall Street Journal wrote that the U.S. formally rejoined the Paris Climate Accord to much media and European applause. We suspect that China (the Chinese Communist Party) is the happiest because it knows that the agreement will limit U.S. energy development, while Beijing gets a free ride for at least a decade, i.e., it doesn’t have to worry about restrictions on its development due to emissions requirements.
