Former California Mayor Robert Jacob (D).

Former California mayor Robert Jacob, who used to run a medicinal marijuana business, has been arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct and forcible sexual assault of a 14- or 15-year-old child, as well as a series of other sex crimes involving minors. Jacob is currently being held without bail at the Sonoma County Adult Detention Facility.

Sebastopol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore confirmed the arrest of the city’s former mayor by phone Saturday afternoon (April 10) and issued a statement containing preliminary information about the charges against him.

“Right now, this investigation is ongoing to determine the number of victims,” Kilgore said, noting that police received a report on March 30 of multiple potential sexual assaults in the city that occurred between December 2019 and March 2021, with the suspect named as former Mayor Jacobs.

Jacob is currently in custody in Sonoma County and is listed as an inmate on suspicion of five felony counts and one misdemeanor. The crimes include having sex with a minor and transporting a minor for the purpose of having sex with a minor, distributing child pornography and soliciting a minor for obscene purposes.

Jacobs, 44, was arrested around 7 a.m. Saturday. Police said they contacted Jacobs, who lives in the 7400 block of Woodland Avenue, and arrested him and outlined several felony counts against minors.

Police said anyone who wants to provide information can contact the Sebastopol Police Department at 707-829-4400 and talk about the contents of the report on 21-2120.

Una Glass, the current mayor of Sebastopol, said the city manager and Kilgore had informed her of the former mayor’s arrest, but had not been told of specific charges or crimes.

“He is no longer serving on our city council,” Glass said. “This is very disappointing and I hope that the victims of whatever he did are taken care of and this is very disappointing.”

Jacob founded Peace in Medicine in Sevastopol in 2007, an organization that aims to use marijuana as medicine, and in 2012 he was elected to the city council, and the following year he was elected mayor by council members, the first in the nation’s history to have a background in marijuana medicine. mayor.

In March 2016, Jacob took a leave of absence to care for his ailing mother and resigned from his position at Peace in Medicine, which merged with Sparc Cannabis Dispensary in 2017.
