U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (D-Texas) said in an interview Saturday, April 10, that the international community has been silent for too long about the Chinese Communist Party’s organ harvesting crimes and urged the U.S. government to hold the Communist Party accountable for its crimes.
In the interview, Babin said the crime of live organ harvesting is one of the world’s worst acts, a crime that is painfully reminiscent of the persecution of Jews in Nazi concentration camps in the 1930s and 1940s. He said, “To think that someone would have their liver or pancreas removed just because of their beliefs and then be left alone until they die themselves, you think it’s a horrible situation.”
He said the international community has been largely silent about the CCP’s crime of live harvesting, although there has been overwhelming evidence of its existence. He argued, “This is mainly due to the Chinese Communist Party coercing other countries through military and economic means. There are those in the United States who have inadvertently or deliberately avoided the subject out of interest or political pressure, but the U.S. government has stood by and watched this crime for far too long.”
He believes the situation is very similar to the 1930s when people avoided talking about Nazi crimes. If we had all stood up against Hitler and his regime (for such atrocities), we might have saved a lot of lives and even prevented World War II,” he said. Now is the time to stop this.”
Last December, members of Congress reportedly introduced a bill called the Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act to combat the Chinese Communist government’s covert support for the forced harvesting and sale of organs from mainland religious groups and ethnic minorities. The bill was reintroduced in the House and Senate in March of this year by a cross-party group of lawmakers. This is the first bill introduced in the House and Senate to stop the crime of live harvesting.
Currently, the U.S. Congress has held several hearings on the crime of live organ harvesting and has enacted a resolution condemning the crime. However, the bill has not yet been formally passed by Congress.
Congressman Babin is the sponsor of the bill, along with Republican Congressman Chris Smith, Democratic Congressman Homas Suozzi, Republican Congressman Vicky Hartzler, Republican Senator Tom Cotton, and Democratic Congressman Chris Coons. Sen. Chris Coons (D-Mich.).
Babin said the bill, once passed by Congress and signed by the president, would hold the U.S. government accountable for the inhumane atrocities of live organ harvesting committed by the Chinese Communist Party. For example, the bill would give the State Department the authority to identify, expose and sanction individuals or governments responsible for global human smuggling and organ transplant crimes. The bill would also require the State Department to annually review and issue annual reports on human organ transplants in other countries and on the relationship between U.S. health care facilities and foreign entities engaged in live harvesting, and would prohibit U.S. health care facilities from selling equipment used in organ transplants to entities or institutions that commit live harvesting crimes.
I don’t think the average American is aware of the crime of live harvesting that is taking place,” Babin said. If more Americans are aware of the problem, the more likely it is that they will resist the Chinese Communist Party’s chances of committing this crime.”
Since the final ruling of the UK’s China Triburnal last June, which ruled that the first allegations of live harvesting by the CCP emerged in 2006, the CCP has been harvesting organs from its detainees on a wide scale on the mainland, mainly from Falun Gong practitioners who have been tortured and persecuted. The victims were mainly Falun Gong practitioners who had been tortured and persecuted.
Following the court’s ruling, more evidence of the CCP’s live harvesting crimes emerged, such as investigative reports indicating that the number of live organ harvesting continues to soar. Moreover, the short waiting time for organs on the mainland Chinese market also suggests that organs are available on demand on the mainland market.
A 2018 report published in the journal Genocide Research and Prevention said that the CCP’s live harvesting crime conceals the CCP’s genocide of Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China and is a form of “cold genocide. “Cold genocide” refers to a slow, more subtle, multifaceted extermination of a group of people over a long period of time. The report concludes that former CCP leader Jiang Zemin, who launched the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in 1999, has been exterminating the Falun Gong community completely and without alerting the international community.
Babin said the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is notorious, and there is evidence to confirm the CCP’s crime of live harvesting, and much of it is firsthand knowledge of the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. He said, “I totally agree with this statement.”
Although there is not yet much evidence of live harvesting of Uyghurs, Babin said Uyghurs in mass detention by the CCP could also be victims of the CCP’s new live harvesting crimes. Religious organizations and other ethnic minorities on the mainland, like Christians, could also be subject to live organ harvesting.
He urged the U.S. Congress and the administration to pass the bill as soon as possible. He said, “People are being murdered, and as long as we avoid this reality, this atrocity will continue.”
